BRAC donated artificial limbs and Tk 0.1 million to each of the 12 victims of Rana Plaza tragedy, who survived with disability as part of long term rehabilitation support of the non-government organisation.
BRAC Limb and BRACE Centre (BLBC) donated the artificial limbs among the victims at a function in the city Saturday.
Since Rana Plaza tragic incident occurred on April 24, 2013, BRAC has been working in close collaboration with the National Institute of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation (NITOR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the leadership of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) to support the victims.
Dr Zulfikar Ali Lenin, director (Health) of PMO, Prof Kh Abdul Awal Rizvi, director of NITOR, vice chairperson of BRAC and BRAC's senior directors were present on the occasion.
Dr Lenin highlighted the government's initiative to prepare a list of all victims of the Rana plaza and said it is being prepared categorised them based on their type of injury and provided emergency healthcare.
He said the government's initiatives were to mitigate repetition of such incidents.
Ackowledging garment sector's contribution in the economy of Bangladesh, vice chairperson of BRAC Dr Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury said: "Such intra-sector collaboration could ensure delivery of timely and quality services among the community people".
