Championing Equal Access: World Day for Assistive Technology 2025

Everyone has the right to access the assistive technology they need, when they need it

Assistive products such as wheelchairs, glasses, hearing aids, artificial limbs and digital devices enable people to live independent lives – to work, study and enjoy the everyday moments that many of us take for granted.

Yet, for many millions of people living in low- and middle-income countries, assistive technology is not available, accessible or affordable. 

This creates a barrier to fairer, more equal societies.

Imagine not being able to experience everyday moments like watching a football match or listening to your favourite music – all because you cannot access the assistive technology you need.

Improving access for all is essential to reducing inequalities and unlocking a world where no one is prevented from earning a living, going to school or living a fulfilling life.

Without access to appropriate and affordable assistive technology, more than 30% of the global population won’t meet their most basic human needs. Assistive technology access is inextricably linked with ensuring everyone can get an education, earn a decent living and reducing poverty and inequality.

World Day for Assistive Technology, on June 4, 2025, is the perfect opportunity for everyone— individuals, organizations, businesses, and policymakers from across the world—to come together and champion the importance of assistive technology. The goal? To increase access and raise awareness, especially in low- and middle-income countries.

Get involved and make a meaningful impact

If you use assistive technology:

• Help us to build momentum towards the next #WorldATDay. Take part in the Me and My AT challenge and share how your assistive product(s) Unlock your Everyday!

Take a photo or record a short video and share it with a message explaining how your assistive technology helps you to live your life and do the things you love.

There are several ways to share your message:

• Send your message to Unlock The Everyday socials (Instagram or Facebook)
• Email gzara@atscalepartnership.org with your photo or video message and we will share it on our social media and add it to a growing collection of snaps and voxpops in support of the campaign.

Share your message from your social account using #MeAndMyAT and tag:

• X: @Unlock_Everyday

Your messages will help to build momentum towards #WorldATDay 2025.

For everyone:

• Social Media: Share the World Day for Assistive Technology assets on your social channels along with your own supporting written or video messages
• Share the campaign video – and help us make it go viral
• Use the hashtags #UnlockTheEveryday and #WorldATDay to show your support on social media.
• Pledge your support: Publicly pledge your personal/ your organization’s or companies’ support and commitment to improving access to assistive technology
• Publicly call on local, national or global policymakers to prioritize funding and resources to improve access to safe, affordable and appropriate assistive technology
• Spread the word: Follow us on Instagram, Facebook and X, and share and repost directly from our pages!

If you’re from a supporting organization or company:

• Plan ahead: Make sure the day is in your company/ organization calendar – promote the day and your plans to mark it, to staff in advance – think about getting staff involved in plans to mark the day
• Host events: Host an event or seminar (virtual or physical), e.g. with expert speakers / assistive technology and accessibility advocates
• Engage leadership: Galvanize high-level support from within your organization/ company – can a senior leader record a video clip or write a blog to post on the day – why they/ the organization is taking part and is committed and passionate about supporting people who use assistive technology
• Celebrate initiatives: Announce a new initiative or relevant partnership and / or celebrate the success of existing assistive technology related initiatives within your company/ organization.
