Empowering Amputees in Yemen: KSrelief's Comprehensive Rehabilitation Efforts

In May 2025, the Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center in Seiyun, Hadhramaut Governorate, delivered an extensive range of specialized medical services to 775 individuals who had suffered limb loss. Supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), the center addressed both physical and psychosocial needs of amputees, providing them a pathway to renewed mobility and independence. Over the course of the month, the center carried out a total of 2,276 individual interventions, reflecting a commitment to comprehensive rehabilitation.

The beneficiaries included men, women, children, and the elderly, with males constituting 60% and females 40% of the total assisted population. A significant proportion, 18%, were internally displaced persons who had been forced to flee their homes due to conflict or instability, while the remaining 82% were local residents of the region. This focus on vulnerable and marginalized populations highlights the program’s inclusive and humanitarian approach.

Core services offered by the center ranged from the custom manufacturing and fitting of prosthetic limbs to the delivery of individualized physical therapy regimens and expert rehabilitation programming aimed at optimizing functionality and quality of life. Each beneficiary underwent a thorough clinical assessment to identify their specific needs and goals, followed by precise device fabrication using state-of-the-art materials and methods. Physical therapists and rehabilitation specialists provided ongoing support, training recipients in the use and maintenance of their prostheses, and guiding them through tailored exercise programs designed to restore strength, balance, and confidence.

In addition to restorative care, specialized consultations were made available, including psychological support services, occupational therapy, and follow-up evaluations to monitor progress and make necessary adjustments. Education and awareness sessions were conducted to help recipients and their families understand limb loss, rehabilitation options, and strategies for overcoming day-to-day challenges.

This ambitious initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader humanitarian efforts, led by KSrelief, to address urgent healthcare needs in Yemen and strengthen the resilience of its healthcare sector. By providing essential services free of charge to those most in need, the program not only alleviates suffering but also empowers beneficiaries to reintegrate into society, pursue employment, and contribute actively to their communities. The continued collaboration between local healthcare providers and KSrelief stands as a testament to the power of partnership in delivering life-changing outcomes for the people of Yemen.
