India Brings Jaipur Foot Camp to Kabul, Empowering Afghan Amputees

As part of India’s ongoing humanitarian support for the people of Afghanistan, a five-day ‘Jaipur Foot’ camp was held in Kabul, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs. Organized by Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), the world’s largest organization for disabled assistance, the camp provided custom-fitted Jaipur Foot prosthetic limbs to Afghan amputees free of charge.

The initiative saw a team of medical professionals, prosthetists, and volunteers travel to Kabul to conduct detailed assessments, manufacture, and fit high-quality prosthetic limbs using locally available materials and advanced techniques. Beneficiaries, many of whom had lost limbs due to conflict, accidents, or illness, received not only artificial limbs but also comprehensive rehabilitation support, gait training, and counseling to assist in their physical and psychological recovery.

Throughout the five days, the camp was able to restore mobility and independence for dozens of Afghan men, women, and children, empowering them to return to education, employment, and daily life. The Jaipur Foot, renowned for its affordability, durability, and adaptability to local terrain and cultural requirements, proved especially transformative in the region’s challenging context.

This camp is part of a wider series of ongoing efforts by the Government of India to foster goodwill, alleviate suffering, and enhance the quality of life for vulnerable communities in Afghanistan. It also reinforces people-to-people ties, demonstrating India’s commitment to supporting the health, dignity, and hope of its Afghan neighbors in times of need.
