03/11/2026

The Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics Practitioners of Nigeria (APOPN) will hold its Unity Conference from 24 to 27 November 2026 at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, in Lagos. The theme is “Global Partnerships for Sustainable Prosthetics and Orthotics in Nigeria and Africa”, and the event is branded EKO 2026, after the traditional name for Lagos.

When and where is the APOPN Unity Conference 2026?

The conference runs over four days, 24 to 27 November 2026, at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, one of Nigeria’s main centres for orthopaedic and rehabilitation care. Early bird registration closed on 31 October, and late registration opened on 1 November.

How much does registration cost?

According to the association’s conference flyer, late registration fees are:

Who is organising the conference?

The Local Organising Committee is chaired by Dr Chikwado Kingsley Onwukamuche, with Mr Peter Aluko as LOC Secretary. IMEA CPO Perspective

A theme built on global partnerships is well chosen for Nigeria, where demand for prostheses and orthoses far outstrips the trained workforce and much of the technology is imported. Recent months have shown how much is already happening: CMUL’s plans for prosthetics and orthotics training, outreach fitting in Benue State and student-led energy from NAPOTS. A national practitioners’ conference with “unity” in its name, held at Igbobi, is a chance to bring those strands together and to give manufacturers, NGOs and international partners a single place to meet Nigerian practitioners. For readers elsewhere in Africa, it is also a useful marker of how professional associations are organising around sustainable, locally led services. Our Nigeria country profile has more on the market.
