Embla Medical, an internationally recognized leader in mobility solutions, announced today that it has received global acclaim for its innovative contributions to enhancing mobility and its strong business leadership. Forbes Magazine has included Embla Medical in its inaugural global Accessibility 100 list, which recognizes companies making a significant impact on accessibility for people with disabilities. This honor highlights Embla Medical’s longstanding commitment to groundbreaking prosthetics, neuro orthotics, and bracing solutions, as well as its dedication to providing high-quality patient care.
Embla Medical encompasses several prominent mobility brands, including Össur, renowned worldwide for its prosthetics and bracing products; Fior & Gentz, a leader in neuro orthotic development; and College Park, which specializes in crafting custom prosthetic solutions for people of all activity levels. Since its establishment in 1971, Embla Medical has obtained over 2,100 patents and introduced numerous award-winning designs, establishing itself as a trailblazer in the Orthotic & Prosthetic (O&P) industry. The company also runs ForMotion clinics, which deliver state-of-the-art solutions, expert support, and personalized care to patients globally.
The Forbes list was the outcome of interviews with more than 400 accessibility leaders across over 15 countries, with companies selected for their innovation, impact, and ability to drive systemic change. Alongside Embla Medical, the list features major global companies such as Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Sony, and Nike, the latter having partnered with Össur to develop the Nike Sole for the Össur Cheetah® sports blade.
“Accessibility is an exciting field that’s never been documented in this way before,” said Alan Schwarz, Forbes Assistant Managing Editor and head of the project. “From individual innovators to tech giants and startups, these organizations are transforming how people move, learn, communicate, work, play sports, and travel. Their influence on people’s lives is profound—and it’s only going to increase.”
“We’re proud to be recognized as a purpose-driven company passionately dedicated to improving the quality of life for people facing chronic mobility challenges,” said Sveinn Sölvason, President and CEO of Embla Medical. “Whether innovating with new mobility solutions or operating our network of clinics, our mission is to deliver groundbreaking mobility options that empower people to experience a Life Without Limitations.”
Sölvason also noted that Embla Medical received the President of Iceland‘s Export Award for 2025, reflecting the company’s achievements on the international stage. “This recognition underscores the dedication and global reach of our entire team. Accepting the award from President Halla Tómasdóttir was a truly meaningful milestone,” he said, recalling that when Embla Medical first earned the honor in 1992, it was a small Icelandic company with around 20 employees.
“Today,” Sölvason continued, “we employ over 4,000 people in 36 countries, and our solutions help countless individuals each day. What has remained constant over the years is our unwavering purpose: to improve the lives of those with mobility challenges. Even as we expand worldwide, our foundation remains firmly rooted in Iceland and its spirit of resilience, innovation, and ambition. This award not only marks how far we’ve come, but also highlights the ongoing importance of fostering innovation and supporting the conditions that help global businesses like ours thrive.”
