Global HEALing Continues: Prosthetic Care and Long-Term Rehabilitation for Injured Children from Gaza

The bombing in Gaza has left thousands of children with life-altering injuries. For many, survival was only the first step. Amputations, severe limb trauma, and complex orthopedic injuries now require long-term rehabilitation, prosthetic care, and sustained medical support.

Through its Global HEALing Program, HEAL Palestine evacuates critically injured children from Gaza for advanced treatment abroad and continues supporting them long after surgery.

For these children, healing does not end in the operating room. It continues across borders, through rehabilitation, prosthetics, and ongoing care.

Even as the United States has stopped issuing visas for patients from Gaza, our Global HEALing Program continues. Their care does not stop. Their rehabilitation does not pause. Our commitment does not end.

Medical Evacuation and Long-Term Rehabilitation for Injured Children from Gaza

Across the United States and internationally, HEAL Palestine has coordinated life-saving surgeries and specialized care for amputee children from Gaza. Once stabilized, many continue their recovery in Egypt, where long-term follow-up, prosthetic adjustments, and therapy plans are coordinated.

This week, Audrey Chien, a volunteer Physical and Occupational Therapy specialist from Baltimore, traveled to Egypt to assess our Global HEALing amputee children. Her work ensures that each child’s prosthetics, mobility, and therapy plans evolve as they grow and heal.

Below are just a few of the children whose journeys reflect both unimaginable loss and extraordinary resilience.

Adam, 5: An Orphan, But Not Alone

Adam lost his leg and his entire family in a bombing in Gaza in the summer of 2024. In an instant, he became an orphan carrying grief no child should bear.

Through HEAL Palestine’s Global HEALing Program, Adam received critical medical care in Chicago. Today, he is recovering in Egypt, where he continues receiving long-term support through our sponsorship program.

This week, Audrey assessed Adam’s mobility and rehabilitation progress to ensure his prosthetic and therapy plan continue to meet his needs as he grows.

Adam is an orphan for life. But he is not alone. Our care, commitment, and community will continue to walk beside him.

Cizar, 5: Continuing Recovery After Severe Leg Injuries

Cizar suffered severe leg injuries in a bombing in Gaza.

Through the Global HEALing Program, he received critical treatment in Charlotte, North Carolina. Today, his recovery continues in Egypt under ongoing supervision and sponsorship support.

Audrey’s recent evaluation ensures that Cizar’s rehabilitation plan, prosthetic needs, and mobility goals remain on track, preventing long-term complications and improving his independence.

Saher, 8: Learning to Walk Again

Saher lost his right leg below the knee when a bombing destroyed his home in Khan Younis. In the same attack, his 16-month-old brother was killed, and his entire family was injured.

Through HEAL Palestine’s Global HEALing Program, Saher received medical treatment and began learning to walk again in Kentucky. Today, he continues rehabilitation in Egypt.

Audrey’s assessment focused on prosthetic alignment, gait progression, and long-term mobility planning to help Saher continue rebuilding his independence.

Lana, 11: Growing Into Her New Mobility

After being displaced from her home in Gaza, Lana lost her leg in a home bombing. Through the Global HEALing Program, she received a prosthetic leg in Florida last summer.

Now in Egypt, she is being reassessed to ensure her mobility plan evolves as she grows. Children require frequent prosthetic adjustments, and continuous monitoring is critical to prevent complications.

HEAL Palestine’s commitment does not end after surgery. We continue walking with our children throughout every stage of recovery.

Mustafa, 15: Rebuilding After Unimaginable Loss

Mustafa lost both of his legs — and his father — in a bombing in Gaza.

Through HEAL Palestine’s Global HEALing Program, Mustafa was evacuated to St. Louis, where he received life-changing medical care and began the long process of rehabilitation and prosthetic fitting.

Today, Mustafa is back in Egypt, where his healing journey continues. He was evaluated by Audrey, who is working closely with our staff helping  egypt amputee children to ensure their prosthetics, mobility plans, and rehabilitation programs continue evolving as they grow.

Shirin, 10: Surgery Is Only the Beginning

Shirin lost her leg in a bombing in Gaza—but not her spirit.

After receiving treatment in New York, her recovery continues in Egypt, where she is undergoing mobility and prosthetic evaluations to ensure her care keeps pace with her growth.

For children like Shirin, surgery is only the beginning. Healing requires time, expertise, and people who do not walk away when the headlines fade.

Waheed, 13: Surviving the Unimaginable

Waheed lost an eye, an arm, and a leg in a bombing in Gaza in 2024.

Through our Global HEALing Program, he received critical medical treatment in Michigan. Today, his journey continues in Egypt, where recovery means ongoing rehabilitation, prosthetic adaptation, and emotional support.

Audrey’s visit ensures Waheed’s complex prosthetic and therapy needs are closely monitored, supporting both his mobility and long-term development.

Islam: Continuing Care Beyond Surgery

Islam is one of our amputee children whose journey reflects the reality that recovery does not end after discharge from the hospital.

After receiving treatment through the Global HEALing Program, Islam now continues rehabilitation in Egypt. This week, Audrey met with him to evaluate his mobility, prosthetic fit, and therapy plan to ensure he receives the full support needed during his post-treatment phase.

His progress is a testament to sustained care and to the community that continues to stand behind him.

Healing Is a Long-Term Promise

The need for medical evacuation and rehabilitation services for injured children from Gaza remains urgent. As more children survive devastating injuries, the demand for prosthetic care, therapy, and follow-up support continues to grow.

Through coordinated international partnerships and dedicated volunteers, HEAL Palestine ensures that such amazing children are not left behind.
