Össur, a leader in patient-centric prosthetic innovations for over 50 years, introduced Navii, a new waterproof microprocessor knee (MPK) designed to help people with above-knee limb loss or limb difference experience freedom of movement and confidence in new ways to move.
Navii intuitively senses and responds in real-time whenever its wearer changes their movement, creating seamless transitions whether the user is accelerating from walking to running, cycling, or ascending stairs.
Navii’s design features a revolutionary actuator and proprietary gait algorithms that enable the wearer to move confidently. The MPK facilitates easy gait initiation with enhanced swing dynamics and consistent swing release while also providing stumble recovery and standing stability functionality.
The MPK has a user-controlled variable position mechanical lock, which can be activated for exceptional stability and support, such as when weightlifting or practicing yoga. It is IP68-rated, waterproof, and can safely be submerged in saltwater, fresh, and chlorinated water and is resistant to dust, sand, and mud.
“Navii is the latest entry in a continuous and unmatched track record of prosthetics breakthroughs pioneered by Össur,” said Ólafur Gylfason, Executive Vice President of
Chronic Solutions for Embla Medical, Össur’s parent company. “But most importantly, Navii’s unmatched functionality and accessibility means even more people with limb loss and limb difference will be able to expand their world and enjoy a life without limitations.”
Navii is accessible for K2 through K4 users who seek an active lifestyle and is covered in the U.S. by CMS and private insurance. Patients may personalize their Navii with prosthetic covers that come in a variety of colors inspired by the Icelandic landscape.
Navii is compatible with the ÖssurLogic app, allowing prosthetists to perform advanced fitting as well as adjustments as needed. The app also provides valuable patient resources, including battery life status, step count, and a menu of specifically designed exercises.
“Navii is giving me the opportunity to live my life the way I want to, and to go to places I’ve never been able to before,” said Össur Ambassador Travis Ricks, a former member of the Team USA Sitting Volleyball team who now works as a sales professional in the prosthetics industry. “Getting into the ocean was taken away from me when I lost my leg, and with Navii, I now have that back. I don’t have to worry about the water while I’m wearing a microprocessor knee.”
