The organisers of ICPO 2027 have opened a call for speakers for Pakistan’s first International Conference on Prosthetics and Orthotics, scheduled to take place in Islamabad in November 2027.
Under the invitation to “Shape the Future of P&O,” prosthetists, orthotists, clinicians, researchers, educators and rehabilitation professionals are being encouraged to submit proposals that can contribute practical knowledge, clinical experience and original thinking to the conference.
The deadline for speaker proposals is 31 January 2027.
Pakistan’s first international P&O conference
ICPO 2027 is being organised by the OPPAK Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists under the patronage of Orthotics Prosthetics Pakistan.
The conference is planned as a three-day scientific and professional gathering under the theme “Research · Innovation · Rehabilitation.” Its objective is to bring together the Pakistani and international O&P communities for education, practical training and professional collaboration.
The official conference website describes a programme combining lectures, panel discussions, case-based learning, live fitting and casting demonstrations and hands-on workshops.
The exact November dates and Islamabad venue have not yet been announced.
Opportunities to contribute
Speaker proposals are invited for several presentation formats:
- Keynote presentations
- Scientific and clinical lectures
- Panel discussions
- Case presentations
- Hands-on workshops
This range gives experienced academics and established international faculty opportunities to participate, while also creating space for practising CPOs with valuable clinical cases or service-delivery experience.
The organisers have specifically stated that new speakers with strong work are welcome. This is an important message for clinicians who may have considerable practical expertise but limited previous conference-speaking experience.
A strong proposal does not necessarily require a large research study. Valuable contributions could examine:
- Difficult prosthetic or orthotic cases
- Locally appropriate fabrication techniques
- Paediatric O&P management
- Diabetic-foot assessment and prevention
- Scoliosis bracing
- Lower-limb prosthetic alignment
- Upper-limb prosthetic rehabilitation
- AFO and KAFO prescription
- Digital scanning and CAD/CAM
- 3D printing in O&P
- Rural outreach and access to services
- Patient-reported outcomes
- Education and workforce development
- Affordable and sustainable service models
The strongest submissions are likely to present a clear clinical or service problem, explain the approach taken and identify lessons that other practitioners can apply.
Practical learning at the centre
ICPO 2027 intends to place a strong emphasis on learning through practice.
Workshop subjects already identified by the organisers include transtibial casting and fitting, transfemoral socket design and alignment, upper-limb prosthetics, scoliosis bracing, lower-limb orthotic fabrication, diabetic-foot care, gait analysis and digital manufacturing workflows.
This is particularly relevant in P&O, where clinical reasoning and technical execution cannot be separated. A lecture may explain a principle, but demonstrations and supervised workshops help participants understand how it is applied during assessment, modification, fabrication, fitting and alignment.
Conditions for invited speakers
The call contains several important conditions:
- Speakers must attend the conference in person in Islamabad.
- Speaking roles are voluntary.
- Travel and related expenses are not covered unless specifically stated.
- The primary speaker will receive complimentary full conference registration.
Potential applicants should take these conditions into account before submitting, particularly if they will need institutional support or external funding for travel and accommodation.
The call is for speaker participation rather than simply poster submission. Applicants should therefore explain not only what they want to present, but also why the subject matters to delegates and how it would contribute to the conference.
An opportunity to shape Pakistan’s professional platform
ICPO 2027 has the potential to become an important platform for Pakistan’s growing O&P profession.
The country has experienced practitioners, established education providers and significant clinical demand, yet opportunities for structured national and international exchange within the profession remain limited.
A diverse speaker programme can help connect clinical practice, education, research, technology and rehabilitation policy. It can also give Pakistani CPOs a platform to present solutions developed in local hospitals, workshops and communities rather than relying exclusively on evidence imported from higher-income markets.
Clinicians and educators with credible work should consider submitting early, particularly those proposing practical workshops or case-based sessions that may require additional planning.
