Emmanuel Mayakah Onduso, a prosthetist and orthotist, has been elected President of the National Association of Orthopaedic Technologists (NAOT) Kenya for a three-year term. He announced the result on LinkedIn, saying members gave him the mandate at the association’s Annual General Meeting in Malindi last Friday (30 October 2026).
Who is the new NAOT Kenya President?
Onduso has previously served NAOT Kenya as Secretary General for two terms, so the presidency is a return to the association’s leadership in a new role. On his LinkedIn profile he describes himself as a prosthetist and orthotist, a Regional Training and Service Manager and a specialist in rehabilitative palliative care, and he is known for his advocacy on disability. He said he was humbled that members had once again placed their trust in him.
What are his priorities for the profession?
Onduso said the association will focus on advancing the profession at every level, with the aim of high standards and best practice in training, regulation, clinical service delivery, research, innovation and business. He said NAOT Kenya will represent and support certified prosthetists and orthotists, orthopaedic technologists, orthopaedic technicians and others working with assistive devices in Kenya and beyond. He also called on members, partners and industry stakeholders to work with the association to improve mobility and rehabilitative care in the country.
The announcement does not name the other members of the new executive or set out a detailed work plan, so those are not reported here.
IMEA CPO Perspective
Professional associations play a central role in how orthopaedic technology develops as a regulated health profession, from training standards to how practitioners are recognised by health authorities. The new president’s focus on regulation and training alongside research and business reflects the challenges many countries in Africa face in growing a qualified prosthetics and orthotics workforce. The election follows the NAOT Kenya Scientific Conference and AGM 2026, and comes as Kenya expands clinical training, such as the KMTC Kisumu orthopaedic technology rotation at Universal Lighthouse. IMEA CPO congratulates Emmanuel Mayakah Onduso and will follow NAOT Kenya’s plans for the profession. More regional news is in the O&P Africa News category.
