Arusha Warriors Return to Compete in 2025 Azam Amputee Football Tournament

AFTER a one-year break, Arusha is proudly back in the spotlight with a dedicated amputee football team composed of young athletes with physical disabilities.

The Arusha Warriors are set to represent the region in the 2025 Azam Amputee Football Tournament, taking place from today July 17 to 19 at the Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) Complex in Dar es Salaam.

This year’s tournament, organised by the Tanzania Amputee Football Federation (TAFF), brings together eight teams from across the country including Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Songwe and Arusha.

It also serves as the selection platform for the national amputee football team.

The revitalised Arusha Warriors squad, currently training at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium, comprises 19 determined players who are brimming with energy and ready to prove their prowess.

Generous support has already started flowing in, with Bonite Bottlers Limited of Moshi, through Supervisor Manager Hamza Ally, donated 15 cartons of drinking water to fuel the team’s journey.

“We will always support sporting activities that uplift communities and promote inclusion,” said Ally.

The Chairperson of Arusha Warriors Amputee Sports Club, Ndekirwa Pallangyo, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Arusha City Council for its continued support and called upon more well-wishers to step forward.

“These athletes may be physically challenged, but their spirit and talent are unmatched. They deserve all the support they can get,” he said.

Team captain Mohammed Issa expressed strong confidence in the squad’s preparations and aspirations, “We’re going to Dar es Salaam with high morale and we’re aiming for the trophy.”

Coach Elias Simon echoed that confidence, noting that the players are driven not just by competition, but by a desire to prove that physical disability is no barrier to athletic excellence.

In support of the initiative, the Arusha City Sports Officer reaffirmed the city’s commitment to inclusive sports development, “Amputee football is more than a game; it’s a platform for empowerment, employment, entertainment and national representatio
