Enhancing Syrian Healthcare: QRCS Delivers Advanced Medical Equipment

In a significant contribution to Syria’s specialized health care services, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has delivered vital medical equipment to health facilities in Idlib Governorate.

This is part of a project to enhance access to and efficiency and sustainability of specialized health care services in Syria, implemented in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society (SARCS) and Syria’s Ministry of Health (MOH).

A 3D printer was provided for the Idlib Prosthetics Center, to design and manufacture advanced prosthetic limbs for amputees. Using modern technologies rarely available in Syria, the measurements and shape are automatically defined, and then the prosthetic limb is printed as a tailored 3D model, ensuring higher quality and faster rehabilitation.

This would help amputees regain mobility, normal life, and social integration. During its operational lifespan, the new machine is expected to benefit around 10,000 people.

Also, an Immunohistochemistry (IHC) system was handed over to the pathology laboratory in Idlib. It is a specialized device used for accurate detection of tumors and cancer diagnosis, by analyzing tissue biopsies and determining the nature of tumors, thus helping develop the right treatment plan for each patient in a reliable scientific manner.

Approximately 30,000 people are expected to benefit from the IHC system, which will strengthen the governorate’s health care capacity, support early cancer detection efforts, and improve medical care outcomes.

These provisions are driven by QRCS’s commitment to enhancing the resilience of the health care system in northern Syria and providing advanced medical solutions that would alleviate the suffering of patients and upgrade health services for the most vulnerable groups.

In this context, QRCS is planning to provide chemotherapy and immunotherapy medications for 100 displaced and poor Syrian patients with cancer at the Oncology Center in Syria, at a cost of QR 10,000 per patient.

Another project seeks to raise funds to provide 350 prosthetic limbs, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and mobility aids for people with disabilities and amputees, at a cost of QR 5,500 per patient.

To achieve the goals of these noble humanitarian projects, QRCS urges all the benevolent charity payers to donate via website (www.qrcs.qa), mobile app (QRCS), donor service (66666364), home donation collection (33998898), or donation collection points at malls and shopping centers.

About Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS)

Established in 1978, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is Qatar’s first humanitarian and volunteering organization that aims to assist and empower vulnerable individuals and communities without partiality or discrimination.

QRCS is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which consists of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 191 National Societies. It is also a member of several GCC, Arab, and Islamic organizations, such as the Islamic Committee of International Crescent (ICIC) and the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO). In this legally recognized capacity, QRCS has access to disaster and conflict zones, thus serving as an auxiliary to the State of Qatar in its humanitarian and social efforts — a role that distinguishes it from other local charities and NGOs.

Both locally and internationally, QRCS has relief and development operations in numerous countries throughout the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe, and Central and South America. Its humanitarian mandates include disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and risk reduction. To mitigate the impact of disasters and improve the livelihoods of affected populations, QRCS provides medical services, food, water, shelter, and other needs of local communities. It is also active at the humanitarian diplomacy and advocacy front.

With the help of a vast network of trained, committed staff and volunteers, QRCS aspires to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity, inspired by the seven Fundamental Principles of humanitarian action: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
