CPO of the Week: Muhammad Kamran from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

My name is Muhammad Kamran, and I am a Prosthetic and Orthotic Technologist currently working at the Canadian Medical Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences from PIPOS, Khyber Medical University, Peshawar, Pakistan.

I also hold a Master’s degree in Physiology in Rehabilitation Sciences (Prosthetics and Orthotics) from Isra University, Islamabad Campus, Pakistan, and a Master’s in Public Health from AUST, Abbottabad, Pakistan. I have published 13 research articles in various academic journals, reflecting my strong interest in evidence-based practice and continuous learning.

Currently, I am working in a clinical setting where I manage a wide range of prosthetic and orthotic cases, with a strong focus on patient assessment, consultation, and comprehensive care.

What do you claim is your specialty – your O&P passion?
My specialty and passion within O&P lie in patient-centered care—especially in detailed assessment, functional rehabilitation, and improving patients’ quality of life through customized solutions.

What do you like most about practicing O&P?
What I enjoy most about practicing O&P is the opportunity to make a direct impact on patients’ lives—helping them regain mobility, independence, and confidence.

What frustrates you about O&P?
One of the challenges I sometimes face in O&P is managing patient expectations, especially when outcomes require time, adaptation, and multiple adjustments. However, I see this as an opportunity to educate and support patients throughout their journey.

What is your greatest patient story in O&P?
One of my most memorable patient experiences involved helping a transtibial amputee regain independent walking after a long period of immobility. Seeing the patient take their first confident steps and return to daily activities was extremely rewarding and reaffirmed my passion for this profession.

How do you build rapport with patients in your care?
To build rapport with my patients, I focus on active listening, empathy, and clear communication. I ensure that patients feel heard, respected, and involved in their treatment plan, which helps build trust and improves overall outcomes.
