Singapore on Tuesday delivered a shipment of prosthetic limbs to the Restoring Hope Association for amputees in Gaza at the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI).
The donation will be transferred through the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) to amputees in the Gaza Strip.
The donation forms part of the Restoring Hope initiative launched by Jordan in September under the directives and support of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
The initiative aims to provide prosthetic limbs to amputees in Gaza who have suffered injuries during the ongoing conflict.
Singapore's Minister in Charge of Religious Affairs and Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mohamed Ibrahim, said Singapore is proud to partner with Jordan in this humanitarian effort.
"Today, we gather to witness the delivery of prosthetic limb supplies from Singapore's Ministry of Health to the Restoring Hope Association as part of the tenth batch of Singaporean humanitarian aid to Gaza," Ibrahim said.
He commended Jordan's steadfast commitment over the past two years to delivering essential humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza including medical supplies, food and other relief items and praised the dedication of the Jordanian Armed Forces and medical teams working to save lives on the ground.
Ibrahim highlighted the strong and longstanding ties between Singapore and Jordan, recalling that Jordan was among the four countries that sponsored Singapore's membership in the United Nations in 1965.
He noted that the 2005 Singapore–Jordan Free Trade Agreement was Singapore's first such accord with a Middle Eastern nation.
He expressed his country's desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in humanitarian and medical fields, noting that Singapore has provided ten aid shipments and contributed more than US$18 million in humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
"Without the support of key partners like Jordan, we would not have been able to deliver the help that is so urgently needed," Ibrahim said.
Citing World Health Organisation (WHO) figures, he added that nearly 42,000 people in Gaza have sustained life-altering injuries, one in four of them children.
"Yet there are not enough functioning hospitals or rehabilitation services to meet these immense needs," he said, noting that Gaza currently has only eight prosthetic specialists able to manufacture and fit artificial limbs.
"The delivery of prosthetics today lays the foundation for long-term cooperation with Jordan to provide sustained medical support to the people of Gaza," he continued.
"We recognise that the journey to rebuild Gaza and restore essential services is long and challenging, and we are deeply grateful for Jordan's partnership, which allows us to play our part."
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister of Health Ibrahim Bdour, attended by Brig Gen Sahel Hammouri, Director General of the Royal Medical Services, said the initiative reflects "the spirit of solidarity and mutual support among nations and embodies the highest ideals of humanity."
Bdour expressed appreciation to the government and people of Singapore for their contribution, emphasising that the prosthetic limbs will help restore hope and mobility to those who have endured the hardships of war.
He commended Singapore's humanitarian stance and expressed hope for continued cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the health sector.
Marwan Hanawi, Director of Programmes and Planning at the JHCO, welcomed Singapore's contribution, praising the ongoing cooperation between JHCO and Singaporean charitable organisations.
He said that under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, JHCO continues to work around the clock to deliver aid to Gaza.
Fawaz Shak'a, Chairman of the Board of the Restoring Hope Association, said the occasion represents "more than the transfer of medical supplies it is a testament to a shared commitment to human dignity."
He reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering dedication to supporting the Palestinian people through humanitarian, medical and diplomatic efforts.
He explained that the Restoring Hope Association was established to provide prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation services to amputees and persons with disabilities, with mobile units already operating in Gaza to reach those in need.
The Restoring Hope initiative was launched by the Royal Medical Services in September 2024 under royal directives in response to the surge in injuries from the Israeli war on Gaza.
The programme aims to address the overwhelming number of amputations and the urgent need for rehabilitation services that exceed the capacity of Gaza's hospitals.
