International Day of Persons with Disabilities Observed at GRH

The department of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities by distributing prosthetics and orthotics to 20 beneficiaries.

In a statement, GRH said that the objective was to create awareness among the general public and persons with disabilities about the services provided by the PMR department and to address disability-related issues.
GRH has issued 1,638 locomotor disability certificates, the highest in the state, and completed 775 MCOP certifications till Nov. To help patients regain mobility, 586 orthoses, 29 conventional prostheses, and 129 CMCHIS approved prostheses have been done.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Disabled Persons and Guardians (TARATDAC), has alleged that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which was observed across Tamil Nadu on Dec 3, was not officially marked by the Madurai district administration.

District secretary of TARATDAC, A Balamurugan, claimed that the collector was ignoring the concerns of persons with disabilities in the district. "We strongly condemn the continued neglect of the differently-abled by the district administration," he said.
