New Prosthetics and Orthotics Building Enhances Education at Sana’a University

Sana’a University received on Wednesday the newly constructed Prosthetics and Orthotics Building, implemented with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the university’s Faculty of Medical and Applied Sciences.

The handover of the new facility is part of joint efforts to enhance medical and technical education in Yemen.

The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Ismail Al-Mutawakel, Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation; Christine Schipola, ICRC representative in Yemen; Dr. Khaled Al-Khumaisi, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Applied Sciences; and several university officials.

Dr. Al-Khumaisi praised the ICRC’s support for the center, describing the building as a qualitative leap in developing rehabilitation and training programs in prosthetics and orthotics. He emphasized that it strengthens the faculty’s capacity to provide specialized educational and rehabilitation services for people with disabilities.

He also commended the international accreditation of the Prosthetics and Orthotics Program by the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO), reaffirming the faculty’s commitment to global quality standards and the university’s vision to advance its academic and community services.



Dr. Al-Khumaisi noted that furnishing and equipping the building will be completed in the coming weeks, paving the way for its official opening and the start of academic , rehabilitation services for students and beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the ICRC representative in Yemen praised the institutional cooperation with Sana’a University, calling the project an effective model of synergy between academic and humanitarian work.

The newly delivered building includes two halls, reception rooms, public facilities, and a training space, serving students , individuals in need of prosthetics and orthotics services.
