Sharjah’s The Big Heart Foundation Launches New Campaign to Restore Mobility for Over 1,000 Amputee Children in Gaza

The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF) has announced the launch of the second edition of its “For Gaza” Ramadan campaign, this time focusing on one of the most urgent humanitarian needs in the Gaza Strip — helping more than 1,000 Palestinian children living with limb amputations regain mobility and rebuild their lives.

Building on the success of last year’s campaign to support orphaned children, the 2026 initiative aims to provide a comprehensive care pathway for children affected by conflict, combining custom prosthetic limbs, physical rehabilitation, and psychosocial support tailored to the needs of young amputees.

TBHF is implementing the programme in partnership with Palestine’s Taawon Foundation, ensuring that assistance is delivered through trusted local organisations with the capacity to provide ongoing, specialised care.

From Immediate Relief to Long-Term Rehabilitation

The campaign reflects TBHF’s evolving humanitarian strategy: moving beyond immediate relief to sustainable, long-term support for vulnerable children. Last year’s “For Gaza” Ramadan campaign, launched under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, raised over Dhs10 million and provided extended care for more than 555 orphaned children in Gaza for at least three years.

In contrast, the 2026 initiative recognises the specific and complex challenges faced by amputee children — including physical rehabilitation, emotional trauma, and social reintegration — and seeks to address them holistically.

Structured Support Throughout Childhood

According to campaign details, the full amputation care pathway — from fitting a prosthetic limb to ongoing therapeutic care — is estimated at around Dhs25,000 per child, covering:

  • Custom prosthetic limb design and fitting
  • Rehabilitation and physical therapy services
  • Assistive devices and mobility equipment
  • Mental health and psychosocial support
  • Growth-adjusted follow-up and prosthetic adjustments through age 18

TBHF has emphasised that all children supported through the campaign qualify under zakat-eligible categories according to Islamic guidelines, and it has pledged that 100% of donations go directly to beneficiaries, with no deductions for administrative or operational fees.

A Call to Solidarity

Alya Obaid Al Musaiebi, Director of TBHF, stated that the continuation of the campaign reflects a “sustained commitment to children whose lives have been profoundly affected by conflict,” highlighting that amputee children require long-term, structured care that goes beyond emergency relief. She noted the importance of restoring mobility, dignity, and confidence as part of durable recovery.

The Foundation is encouraging individuals and institutions across the UAE and beyond to support the campaign through direct donations or community-driven fundraising efforts, helping ensure that affected children have access to life-changing care and the opportunity to participate fully in their communities.
