I am currently engaged in clinical practice and research at SVNIRTAR, Cuttack, where I contribute to patient care and the development of innovative orthotic and prosthetic solutions.
What do you claim is your specialty—your O&P passion?
Having engaged myself in patient rehabilitation for the past 4–5 years, my passion lies in designing, fabricating, and researching innovative solutions in the field of Prosthetics & Orthotics, along with assistive technologies. My specialty lies in fabricating customized prostheses for amputees and pediatric patients. Additionally, I am deeply interested in integrating technology into orthotic devices to enhance patient outcomes and overall functionality.
What do you like most about practicing O&P?
I love seeing patients regain independence and confidence through prosthetic, orthotics & assistive devices that restore mobility and functionality. Witnessing the direct impact of my work on someone’s quality of life is incredibly rewarding.
One of my most memorable experiences was successfully fitting a trilateral hip abduction orthosis for a pediatric patient diagnosed with Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease (LCPD). The case presented several challenges, but through careful assessment, thoughtful orthotic design, and continuous training, I was able to achieve a comfortable and functional fit. Beyond preventing deformity and aiding correction, the orthosis enabled the child to play and attend school happily. Seeing the child’s smile, satisfaction, and renewed independence has been profoundly rewarding for me as a clinician. I have also attached a video showing the child ambulating with the orthosis.
I build rapport by actively listening, assessing both the physical and psychological needs of patients, and understanding their individual goals. I involve patients and their family members in the decision-making process, creating a supportive and empathetic environment that helps them feel comfortable, confident, and engaged in their care.
