CPO of the Week: Endrix Chiong from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

My name is Mr. Endrix Chiong.I live in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I studied health-related courses and developed my Orthotics and Prosthetics skills through hospital-based training and long-term clinical experience. I completed my Health Aid course and Secretarial course before starting working in O&P as a cast technician. I have been practicing in this field for over 10 years.
I worked for 10 years under rehabilitation as an Orthotics and Prosthetics Cast Technician and 6 yrs as Orthopedic cast technician in Saudi Arabia

What do you claim is your specialty – your O&P passion?
My specialty is plaster casting techniques, custom lower limb casting, minor orthoses fabrication, and troubleshooting alignment issues. My passion is achieving accurate casts that lead to better patient comfort and function.

What do you like most about practicing O&P?
I like seeing patients regain mobility and confidence. When a patient walks better after fitting, it gives me fulfillment.

What frustrates you about O&P?
Sometimes delays in materials or limited resources can affect patient care. Also, when patients do not follow instructions, it slows their progress.

What is your greatest patient story in O&P?
One of my most memorable cases was a patient who had difficulty walking due to severe deformity. After proper casting and orthotic fitting, he was able to walk independently again. Seeing his smile and gratitude reminded me why I love this profession.

How do you build rapport with patients in your care?
I build rapport by listening carefully, explaining procedures clearly, being patient, and showing empathy. I treat every patient with respect and professionalism, especially since many feel anxious during casting procedures.
