Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy has received a comprehensive report from the Central Administration for Persons with Disabilities detailing the visit of an Egyptian delegation to the German Ottobock company, recognized globally as a leader in the design and production of prosthetics, orthopaedics, and advanced exoskeleton systems.
The primary goal of this visit was to closely monitor and assess the ongoing preparations for the establishment of assembly and fitting centers which are a cornerstone of the broader national initiative to localize the prosthetic industry in Egypt, in accordance with the strategic directives of the Egyptian political leadership. This initiative aims to enhance self-sufficiency, transfer advanced technology, and provide high-quality services to individuals with disabilities across the country.
During the visit, the delegation conducted an extensive inspection of Ottobock’s state-of-the-art warehouses, meticulously reviewing the wide range of machinery, equipment, and specialized tools that are slated for shipment to Egypt. These resources are destined for new assembly and fitting centers planned for several governorates, including Sharkia, Beheira, Ismailia, Assiut, Luxor, and Aswan. The inspection was undertaken to ensure that all devices meet high international standards prior to their shipping and delivery, paving the way for efficient setup and operation in each location.
Additionally, the Egyptian officials visited the Ottobock manufacturing headquarters, where they observed cutting-edge production processes and learned firsthand about the successful German experience in the innovative manufacturing techniques of prosthetic and orthopedic devices. This exposure provided valuable insights which are expected to inform and refine the Egyptian approach to developing a robust local prosthetics sector.
The delegation’s itinerary also included an educational visit to the Ottobock Scientific and Training Academy, where they were introduced to the latest technical training modules and educational programs designed for professionals in the field of prosthetics. The knowledge and expertise gained from this visit are set to play a crucial role in shaping a comprehensive Egyptian training program. This program will focus on building the capacities of national personnel, ensuring that skilled professionals are thoroughly prepared to deliver high-quality services and support within the newly established centers, advancing both professional standards and patient care across Egypt.
