Exceed Research Network Marks 10 Years with Anniversary Online Research Forum

The Exceed Research Network (ERN) has marked its tenth anniversary with the launch of a dedicated Tenth Anniversary Online Research Forum, celebrating a decade of applied, ethical research in disability and physical rehabilitation — particularly across lower resource settings.

The online Forum brings together short, accessible presentations from ERN members and leading international researchers. Designed for researchers, students, clinicians and the wider public, the series highlights pressing disability challenges and demonstrates how structured, ethically grounded research is being used to assess needs, inform service delivery and strengthen rehabilitation systems.

At its core, ERN’s work focuses on practical impact. Over the past decade, the consortium has built a reputation for research that does not remain confined to academic journals, but instead feeds directly into service provision in prosthetics, orthotics and wider rehabilitation sectors. The Anniversary Forum reflects this ethos by showcasing studies that translate evidence into action — from service accessibility and workforce capacity to device outcomes and long-term functional rehabilitation.

The research presented emphasises:

  • Physical rehabilitation access in lower resource environments
  • Prosthetic and orthotic service delivery models
  • Workforce training and capacity building
  • Ethical frameworks for conducting research in vulnerable populations
  • Outcome measurement and quality improvement in assistive technology

ERN expressed its appreciation to the researchers and field teams whose work features in the Forum, acknowledging the collaborative effort required to conduct rigorous research in challenging contexts. Many of the projects presented involve partnerships between universities, NGOs, local service providers and public sector organisations — reflecting ERN’s multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach.

The Exceed Research Network is an international consortium that brings together academic institutions, humanitarian organisations, businesses and public agencies. Its primary focus is on applied, ethical research in disability — with particular attention to the prosthetic and orthotic sectors in lower income and resource-constrained settings.

Over the past ten years, ERN has contributed to strengthening evidence-based rehabilitation services, improving clinical standards, and supporting locally driven research capacity. Its work aligns closely with global efforts to expand access to assistive technology and inclusive rehabilitation services under frameworks such as Universal Health Coverage and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The Tenth Anniversary Online Research Forum is available to view on YouTube and offers a valuable opportunity for clinicians, researchers and students in orthotics and prosthetics to engage with contemporary research shaping the sector.

For the prosthetics and orthotics community — particularly those working across Africa, Asia and the Middle East — the Forum provides both inspiration and practical insight into how ethical, collaborative research can drive measurable improvements in rehabilitation services worldwide.
