Hands-On Prosthetics Workshop Bridges GJU and University of Stuttgart

The German Jordanian University (GJU) organised a practical workshop titled “Prosthetics in Action: A Hands-On Experience Where Knowledge Meets Craftsmanship” as part of the Biomedical Engineering Innovation and Technology (MEDiTech 2025) project, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Held under the supervision of Dr. Jumana Matouq, the workshop was organised and hosted by Mafaz Medical for Prosthetics and Orthotics, the exclusive agent of Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA in Jordan. Ottobock is a global leader in innovative prosthetic, orthotic, and mobility solutions, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

The workshop brought together GJU students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering and a student team from the University of Stuttgart, strengthening academic and professional collaboration between the two institutions.

Participants received comprehensive hands-on training covering key stages of prosthetic and orthotic practice, including patient assessment, identifying appropriate solutions, rehabilitation processes, measurement techniques, casting, device fabrication, fitting, and final adjustments. The training highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary teamwork, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real clinical and technical settings.

Through this unique learning opportunity, GJU reaffirms its commitment to practical education, international collaboration, and preparing students with the skills necessary to innovate in biomedical engineering and rehabilitation technology.
