KMU Launches Pakistan's First MS Program in Prosthetics and Orthotics

PESHAWAR - In a landmark development for Pakistan's rehabilitation and assistive technology sector, Khyber Medical University (KMU) has officially received the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to launch its MS Program in Prosthetics and Orthotics.

This approval marks a historic breakthrough, making KMU the first public sector university in Pakistan to offer a postgraduate degree in P&O a field crucial for limb loss management, physical rehabilitation, and technological innovation in assistive devices.

According to the announcement, this advancement is expected to significantly strengthen the professional landscape, enhance clinical competencies, and open new avenues for research and higher education in the field. Experts say this step will help Pakistan meet the rising demand for highly trained prosthetists and orthotists, especially amid growing cases of diabetes-related amputations, congenital conditions, and trauma injuries.

University officials and members of the P&O community have welcomed the initiative, calling it a long-awaited milestone that will uplift educational standards and support the development of specialized rehabilitation services across the country.

With the introduction of this MS program, Pakistan moves closer to aligning its rehabilitation education with international standards. The community anticipates that this achievement will inspire other institutions to strengthen and expand their prosthetics and orthotics training programs.
