Special Camp to Provide Artificial Limbs for 600 Tanzanians

THE Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) in collaboration with the Indian High Commission, through the Jaipur India Institute will conduct a special camp to provide artificial limbs to 600 Tanzanians who have lost their limbs.

This was stated today by the Acting Executive Director of MOI, Dr Lemeri Mchome while speaking to media outlets.

 

Dr Lemeri said that the camp will last for two months starting from November 26, 2025 when those in need will arrive at the MOI for registration before going to the Swami Vivekanand Cultural Centre (SVCC), Masaki in Dar es Salaam

“This camp is for two months, the needy will arrive at the MOI for registration, so far 300 needy people have been registered. After registration on November 26, 2025 this camp will officially start at the Cultural Centre Masaki, Dar es Salaam”

Dr Lemeri added those who have completely recovered from the injuries of the limb they lost and those whose injuries have not healed are advised to wait for them to recover.

For his part, the Head of the Information and Political Division from the Indian Embassy in Tanzania, Mr Lakshay Anand said experts will use the unique technology of the Jaipur Foot prosthetic leg, where a person with a leg amputated below the knee will be able to walk, run, squat, kneel, dance, climb trees, drive cars and motorcycles.

In addition, Mr Lakshay has called on all those who have lost limbs, especially legs, to come forward to receive treatment at the camp.
