NSPPL Announces Free Prosthetic, Orthotic and Assistive Device Services for Beneficiaries in Turkey

06/07/2026

The National Syrian Project for Prosthetic Limbs (NSPPL) has announced that a range of rehabilitation and assistive technology services are now available free of charge for eligible beneficiaries in Turkey.

According to the announcement, beneficiaries who require support can register for the following services:

  • Prosthetics
  • Orthotics
  • Mobility aids
  • Eyeglasses
  • Hearing aids

The services will be provided in Reyhanlı, Turkey, an area close to the Syrian border that has played an important role in supporting Syrians affected by conflict, displacement and disability. NSPPL has asked beneficiaries who need these services to complete the registration form shared in the announcement and to circulate the information to others who may benefit.

NSPPL, known in Arabic as المشروع الوطني السوري للأطراف الصناعية, was founded in 2013 during the Syrian crisis, initially responding to the urgent need for prosthetic care among people who had lost limbs during the conflict. The organisation states that it began by distributing prosthetic devices to amputees in and around Aleppo, before expanding its work through rehabilitation centres and outreach services.

The project has become one of the most recognised Syrian-led rehabilitation initiatives serving people affected by war-related injuries, displacement and disability. Its work has included prosthetic and orthotic care, physical rehabilitation, community support and broader medical relief activities. NSPPL describes itself as a non-profit humanitarian medical organisation providing healthcare services to its beneficiaries, with a presence in Hatay, Turkey.

For many Syrians living with limb loss or physical disability, access to prosthetic and orthotic care remains a major challenge. The cost of devices, travel, follow-up appointments, maintenance and rehabilitation can create barriers to long-term mobility. This is particularly difficult for displaced families, children who outgrow devices quickly, and adults who need mobility to return to work, education or family responsibilities.

The inclusion of mobility aids, eyeglasses and hearing aids alongside prosthetic and orthotic services is also significant. It reflects a wider understanding of disability support, where mobility, vision and hearing needs can all affect independence, inclusion and daily participation.

Reyhanlı has long been connected to cross-border humanitarian rehabilitation work for Syrians. Relief International has previously highlighted NSPPL-supported rehabilitation services in Reyhanlı, including prosthetic and orthotic care for Syrians affected by conflict and displacement. Relief International has also reported that it has supported NSPPL since 2017, helping provide prosthetic and orthotic services to hundreds of people, including many children.

For the wider prosthetics and orthotics community across the Middle East and surrounding regions, NSPPL’s latest announcement is a reminder of the continuing need for accessible rehabilitation services for conflict-affected populations. It also highlights the importance of local and regional service capacity, especially in border areas and displacement-affected communities where the need for assistive technology is often urgent and ongoing.
