I am Jamal Khaled Omar from Amman in Jordan and I graduated on 23 June 2022 having studied Prosthetics and Orthotics at the University of Jordan.
I am currently completing my DOH Abu Dhabi licensing process while looking for a new opportunity in the Gulf region. Previously, I worked as an Orthotist and Prosthetist at Ibn Sina Medical Devices and Services Center in Jordan.
What do you claim is your specialty – your O&P passion?
My passion is helping patients regain their mobility and independence through well-designed orthotic and prosthetic solutions. I especially enjoy lower-limb prosthetics and orthotic rehabilitation because every patient presents a unique challenge and an opportunity to improve their quality of life.
What do you like most about practicing O&P?
The most rewarding part of my work is seeing the smile on a patient’s face when they realize they can walk more confidently or return to activities they thought they had lost forever. Knowing that my work can make such a meaningful difference motivates me every day.
What frustrates you about O&P?
One of the biggest challenges is seeing patients who would benefit from advanced devices but are unable to access them because of financial limitations or limited healthcare resources.
What is your greatest patient story in O&P?
One of the most memorable patients I worked with was a bilateral below-knee amputee. When we first met, he had lost confidence in his ability to move independently and was uncertain about the future. After receiving his prostheses and completing gait training, he gradually regained his balance, confidence, and independence. Watching him walk on his own again and seeing the positive impact it had on his daily life was one of the proudest moments of my career. It reminded me that our work is not only about providing devices—it is about restoring hope and improving lives.
How do you build rapport with patients in your care?
I always begin by listening carefully to my patients and understanding their goals and concerns. I explain every step of the treatment process in simple terms, encourage them to ask questions, and involve them in every decision. I believe that trust, empathy, and good communication are the foundation of successful patient care.
