EPSS Recognition Event Celebrates Vision, Innovation, and Dedication

The Ethiopian Physical Support Service (EPSS) has held a formal Recognition and Encouragement Program celebrating employees whose dedication and performance have helped shape the institution during its formative years.

Leadership Emphasizes Vision and Resilience

Speaking at the event, Dr. Tariku Tadesse, Chief Executive Officer of EPSS, reflected on the organisation’s origins and direction. He noted that the institution was established through the vision of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health, and the commitment of board members and leadership teams working tirelessly to realise its national mission.

“As a young institution, challenges are inevitable,” Dr. Tariku stated, “but EPSS has demonstrated that it is an organisation defined by progress, adaptation, and continuous change.”

He highlighted several milestone initiatives that underscore EPSS’s expanding role in Ethiopia’s rehabilitation landscape:

  • Development under the National Rehabilitation Medical Project
  • Construction of a new administrative building
  • Deep water well drilling to support facility sustainability
  • Establishment of a Research and Innovation Center

Dr. Tariku credited these achievements to the “extensive efforts of management, board members, Ministry of Health leadership, and the unwavering commitment of EPSS staff.”

Ministry of Health Reinforces Rehabilitation Priorities

Dr. Ilubabur Buno, Chief Executive of the Ministry of Health’s Rehabilitation Medical Services, reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for EPSS and the broader rehabilitation agenda.

He stressed that rehabilitation medicine represents “hope for the masses,” particularly for individuals living with disability, injury, or limb loss. The Ministry, he explained, is actively strengthening coordination between regional hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and EPSS, with a focus on:

  • Expanding service capacity
  • Empowering emerging rehabilitation facilities
  • Increasing access to prosthetic and orthotic care

“There is a clear need to continue opening and strengthening centres across regions,” Dr. Ilubabur noted.

Innovation, Quality, and Long-Term Impact

Dr. Abbas Hassan, EPSS Board Member and CEO for Quality and Innovation at the Ministry of Health, described EPSS as a tangible example of forward-thinking leadership and inclusive policy in action.

He emphasised the institution’s long-term potential, particularly in:

  • Technology adoption
  • Research and innovation
  • Systems strengthening
  • Service modernisation

“The recognition awards are not merely symbolic,” Dr. Abbas stated. “They inspire productivity, reinforce excellence, and help drive cultural transformation within the organisation.”

Celebrating Excellence and Commitment

Awards were presented across multiple categories, recognising:

  • High-performing employees
  • Long-serving honorary awardees
  • Individuals with special contributions to EPSS

Several recipients expressed pride and gratitude, noting that their behind-the-scenes work had been acknowledged and that the recognition significantly strengthened their motivation.

A Collective Moment

The ceremony concluded in the presence of board members, Ministry of Health representatives, invited guests, EPSS management, and employees, marking a shared moment of reflection and encouragement.
