Government Reaffirms Commitment to High-Quality Prosthetics for Landmine Survivors

Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Mashat on Thursday, 17 July 2025, reaffirmed the government’s resolute commitment to providing prosthetic devices that adhere to the highest international standards of quality and efficiency, ultimately aiming to facilitate the reintegration of injured individuals—including landmine survivors—into society as productive and empowered members.

Mashat’s statements came during an official visit to the prosthetics center in Matrouh governorate, where she sought to obtain direct insights into the assistance and rehabilitation services extended to landmine victims, a group that continues to face profound physical, social, and economic challenges.

During her visit, the Minister observed the distribution and ongoing maintenance of 100 prosthetic limbs for local residents—an effort implemented in alignment with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to prioritize the localization of prosthetics manufacturing and to strengthen national support for landmine survivors. This initiative reflects the state’s broader vision to foster resilience and restore dignity for those impacted by conflict-related injuries.

As she toured the center, Minister Mashat placed special emphasis on the necessity of maintaining rigorous efficiency and quality controls throughout every stage of prosthetic production, fitting, and aftercare. She also highlighted the importance of regular device maintenance to ensure sustained functionality and user comfort, enabling beneficiaries to regain mobility and independence.

Looking ahead, the Planning Ministry is actively pursuing an ambitious upgrade of the prosthetics center in Matrouh, facilitated by a strategic partnership with German counterparts. This cooperative initiative targets the enhancement of the center’s technical capacities and the advancement of its role as a keystone institution in Egypt’s drive to localize prosthetic technology, raise operational standards, and expand access to life-changing rehabilitative care for all who need it.
