APAAPO to Host Webinar on Delivering Culturally Sensitive Care to Muslim Patients in O&P

The American Academy of Prosthetics and Orthotics (APAAPO) will host an upcoming virtual webinar titled “Providing Culturally Sensitive Care to Muslim Patients in O&P.” The session will be presented by Mariam El-Khatib, an APAAPO member and AAPI ally, and is open to the public.

Scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 7:30–8:30 PM CT, the webinar will focus on strengthening clinicians’ ability to deliver respectful, culturally informed prosthetic and orthotic care. Participants can expect practical guidance aimed at improving communication, building trust, and adapting clinical interactions to better meet the needs of Muslim patients.

Bridging Clinical Excellence and Cultural Awareness

As O&P professionals increasingly serve diverse patient populations, cultural competence has become a critical component of patient-centered care. The webinar will explore:

  • Understanding religious and cultural considerations that may influence care decisions
  • Enhancing clinician–patient communication and shared decision-making
  • Recognizing potential barriers to adherence and satisfaction
  • Applying culturally sensitive strategies within everyday clinical workflows

Attendees will gain insights designed to be immediately applicable in both public and private practice settings.

Continuing Education Opportunity

Participants may earn 1 Category II CEU credit. Clinicians seeking credit are advised to have their ABC credentials available during the session.
